Things to do in Cuba

Posted on 24 August 2009 by admin

Whenever we think of Cuba, we always seem to think of Che Guevara and expensive cigars, but what most people don’t realise is Cuba is a fantastic holiday destination.

Exploring the places in Cuba

Here are some of the reasons to visit Cuba:

  • The spectacular city of Habana
  • Cuban music
  • Cuban dancing
  • Cuban cusine
  • Cigars – some of the best in the world
  • Amazing beaches
  • Ernest Hemingway said you’ll find the best mojito at La Bodeguita del Medio and the best daiquiri at El Floridita – both in Cuba

Not forgetting their coffee and the beautiful and friendly people, Cuba is definitely one of the top 20 places you have to see in your lifetime.

So, once you have set your sites on visiting Cuba, why not try some of the following:

1) Try your hand at rolling cigars at one of Cuba’s tobacco factories such as the Real Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás in Havana.

2) Go exploring under the sea. There are over 20 dive sites at Varadero alone. One of the world’s biggest coral reefs is offshore at Cayo Coco, and there are more reefs around Isla de la Juventud. This island was the inspiration behind Robert Stevenson’s novel, Treasure Island.

3) Follow in famous footsteps. Have a beer at Castillo de Farnes, where Ché and Castro toasted the success of the Revolution. As well as go and have a mojito at Hemingway’s old haunt La Bodeguita del Medio.

4) Soak up the sun on Cuba’s beaches: from Playas del Este near Havana to exclusive island resorts like Cayo Coco where the only Cubans around are waiters and maids. Consider visiting Varadero too, as its a resort that combines beach and nightlife for locals and foreigners alike.
